Aportaciones científicas más relevantes del XVI Congreso de la Sociedad Europea de Hipertensión. Madrid, 12-15 de junio de 2006

In this paper, we review the main advances shown in the XVI European Society of Hypertension Meeting, held in Madrid on June, 12th-15th. Several subgroup analyses of the main clinical trials, reported in the last 2 or 3 years, as well as state-of-the-art lectures are commented here. Moreover, various seminars, topical workshops and how to... sessions have been devoted to the discussion of clinical and therapeutical aspects of the management of hypertensive patients and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Finally, several joint sessions with other societies envolved in cardiovascular disease prevention, such as the American Society of Hypertension, the European Society of Cardiology and the Renin Academy have been developed, in order to unify criteria on different preventive and therapeutic aspects.
