Determinación del riesgo cardiovascular total. Caracterización, modelización y objetivos de la prevención según el contexto sociogeográfico

This narrative review describes the underlying principles of cardiovascular prevention and the various preventive strategies employed today. It also discusses the assessment instruments used to determine cardiovascular risk and their application in everyday clinical practice, while taking into account the reality of health care in two very different countries: Cuba and Spain. Finally, the limitations of cardiovascular risk functions and anticipated future directions in research are considered.
