PurposeThe aim of this article is to present the current state of knowledge about analysis of the concentration of xenobiotics in hair.BackgroundThe article describes the history of development of techniques for the determination of xenobiotics in hair, mechanisms and factors influencing the process of their incorporation into the structure of the hair. It also presents the most common applications as well as the pros and cons of the method.ConclusionsAssessment of xenobiotics in hair seems to be helpful in some circumstances for the analysis of exposure, and may be complementary to the classical analytical methods. Precise analytical techniques and detailed description of factors that may have a significant impact on the incorporation of xenobiotics may help in further development of this method.
