HIV infection among different population groups in India: A comprehensive review of seroprevalence and co-infection studies
چکیده انگلیسی
A number of seroprevalence studies have been carried out by different authors in different regions of India. Most of these studies are hospital based and the authors have focused on high-risk group clients such as TB patients, patients attending STD clinics, FSWs, IDUs and MSMs. In this paper, studies carried out among different population groups, namely leprosy patients, TB patients (adult and children), Foreign students, STD patients, General and High-risk group clients namely FSWs and IDUs, attending an ICTC at Agra have been compared with those in other regions of the country. This review examines and summarizes the prevalence of HIV infection and other co-infections among different groups of population studied by authors in other regions of India [Chennai, Pune, Kolkatta, Manipur, Vellore, Amritsar, Manipal and Hyderabad] over a period of 3 decades. This is a review of the epidemiology of HIV/AIDS in India across specific regions since the early years. It might serve the purpose of quick reference for epidemiologists, academicians, students and researchers.
