The most striking question is the potential use of antibiotic therapy in cases with infectious symptoms associated to bacterial proliferation (inflammatory conditions, altered polymorphonuclear cells, purulent vaginal discharge): these cases often require antibiotics particularly in women potentially pregnant, due to infectious risks to the foetus. In most cases of bacterial vaginosis, local treatments and hygienic measures should be sufficient to maintain or re-establish a normal flora.
