L'évaluation en oncologie : comment je fais en imagerie ?

Since 2000, an international committee has proposed several easily and applicable criteria for measuring tumor response using X-ray, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging which is known as Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST). The method proposes some rules for target tumor lesions measurement, based on a simplification of World Health Organisation (WHO) method: RECIST criteria presume that one dimension measures are an adequate substitute of 2D methods. RECIST criteria were reviewed in January 2009 (version 1.1): the major modifications of this new version concern the lymph nodes, which must be measured in the smallest dimension. The method is recommended for clinical follow-up of the patient and usually mandatory for clinical trials. It classifies the responses in four response categories: CR (complete response) = disappearance of all target lesions and/or smallest diameter of lymph nodes <10mm, PR (partial response) = decrease of 30% in the sum of the longest diameter of target lesions, PD (progressive disease) = increase over 20% in the sum of the longest diameter of target lesions or new lesion, SD (stable disease) = changes that do not meet with above criteria. This work highlights how to use RECIST criteria and illustrates applications from some examples.
