Bowel and mesenteric injuries are found in 1-5% of blunt abdominal trauma victims. They are challenging to diagnose and delayed diagnosis results in exponential morbidity and mortality rates. Multidetection computed tomography (MDCT) is the golden standard for diagnosis and therapeutic management. This illustrated article reviews the broad spectrum of bowel and mesenteric injuries that can be seen on MDCT.
