Pancoast tumors (superior sulcus tumor) are apical lung cancers that may cause any or all of the symptoms originally described in 1932 as Pancoast's syndrome. Magnetic resonance imaging has emerged as the procedure of choice to assess the local extent of these invasive tumors. Because of its capacity for multiplanar imaging and depiction of subtle differences in contrast, MR imaging best depicts chest wall and especially spinal involvement for evaluationof the criteria T defined by the international classification andfor predicting tumor resectability.
