Protocolo diagnóstico y terapéutico de la anemia en un paciente oncológico

ResumenLa anemia es la alteración hematológica más frecuente en los pacientes con cáncer. Junto con la anemia de la enfermedad crónica, la causa más frecuente es el tratamiento con quimio y/o radioterapia. La consecuencia fundamental es la hipoxia de los tejidos que produce signos y síntomas, entre los más frecuentes se encuentra la astenia y los síntomas cardiovasculares. Se debe hacer un adecuado diagnóstico, descartando las causas tratables. El tratamiento en estos pacientes se basa en transfusiones y/o la administración de eritropoyetinas, una vez corregidas otras posibles causas. Las eritropoyetinas están indicadas en pacientes con Hb < 10 g/dl o con cifras entre 10–12 g/dl en función de la sintomatología del paciente.

Anemia is the most common blood disorder in patients with cancer. Along with the anemia of chronic disease, the most common cause is treatment with chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy. The fundamental result is tissue hypoxia eliciting signs and symptoms, the most common is fatigue and cardiovascular symptoms. They should make a proper diagnosis discarding treatable causes. Treatment in these patients is based on transfusions and/or erythropoietin administration, once corrected for other possible causes, showing efficacy to increase hemoglobin levels. Erythropoietins are indicated in patients with Hb < 10 g/dl or 10–12 g/dl figures based on the patient's symptoms.
