Prevalence of eating disorders symptoms in nonelite ballet dancers and basketball players: An exploratory and controlled study among French adolescent girls

This study showed that the frequency of ED symptoms is equivalent in nonelite athletes and nonathletes. However, these nonsignificant results should be interpreted with caution regarding the weak statistical power of the analyses and the small sample size. Detailed analysis revealed a significantly higher prevalence of drive for thinness symptoms in ballet dancers in comparison with basketball players. Consequently, these results should be viewed as preliminary and further studies are needed before they can be generalized to French adolescent female athletes.
