Position du problèmeDeux grandes questions concentrent une part importante de l'effort de recherche concernant la santé reproductive masculine : d'une part, celle de la détérioration temporelle de la santé reproductive masculine et, d'autre part, celle de l'influence des expositions chimiques subies durant la vie intra-utérine sur la santé dans l'enfance et à l'âge adulte. Les concepts de perturbation endocrinienne et de syndrome de dysgénésie testiculaire font un lien entre ces questions.MéthodesLe travail met en perspective les connaissances accumulées en nous centrant sur les trois dernières années en ce qui concerne les variations géographiques et temporelles de la santé reproductive masculine et du syndrome de dysgénésie testiculaire. Le concept de perturbation endocrinienne, les données récentes concernant l'influence des facteurs environnementaux chimiques sur la fonction de reproduction masculine sont présentés, ainsi que les éléments concernant les effets transgénérationnels de l'environnement sur la santé de l'enfant de sexe masculin.ConclusionÀ partir de constatations cliniques et épidémiologiques, en ayant recours à des modèles animaux et in vitro ainsi qu'à des observations de la faune sauvage, l'activité de recherche dans ce domaine permet à la fois d'élucider des mécanismes d'actions et de mieux caractériser les influences de l'environnement sur la fonction de reproduction masculine.

BackgroundAn important part of the research effort on male reproductive health focus on two important questions: on the one side, that of the temporal deterioration of male reproductive health and, on the other head, that of the influence of exposure to environmental chemicals during intra-uterine life on health during childhood and adulthood. The concepts on endocrine disruption and testicular dysgenesis syndrome make a link between these two questions.MethodsThis work examines knowledge cumulated over the last couple of years concerning geographical and temporal variations in male reproductive health and the testicular dysgenesis syndrome. Recent results concerning the concept of endocrine disruption and on the environmental influences on male reproduction are presented, as well as on the transgenerational effects on environmental factors on the health of male children.ConclusionsBased on clinical and epidemiological data, and with the use of in vitro animal models as well as observations in wildlife, research in this field has enabled progress in the elucidation of mechanisms of action and characterization of environmental influences on male reproductive health.
