Surgery for pituitary tumours

In the UK approximately 1000 new patients are diagnosed with a pituitary tumour every year. Although this is predominantly a benign condition, if untreated, visual compromise and endocrine effects of hypersecretion or hypopituitarism can result. This is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. This article provides an overview of the presentation and management of pituitary tumours.
