Tribology of artificial joints

Much new advancement has been made in the field of joint replacement that promotes tribological benefits in design. The paper discusses the basic tribological theory that is employed in joint replacements. Whilst the potential for reduced surface interaction and wear clearly exists through improved lubrication, the paper concludes that the practical application of these benefits towards a clinical product is challenging to achieve.
