Unusual and rare tumours of the liver

While adenoma, haemangioma, hepatocellular carcinoma and metastasis constitute the majority of tumours encountered in the liver, the liver may also be the primary site for a range of more unusual tumours, the diagnosis of which may not be possible without sampling for histology. This review highlights the clinical and morphological features of five such unusual tumours: calcifying nested stromal-epithelial tumour, solitary fibrous tumour, epithelioid haemangioendothelioma, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour and PEComa, with particular emphasis on their distinction from the more common tumours of the liver.
