Adult-onset focal expression of mutated human tau in the hippocampus impairs spatial working memory of rats

► Hippocampal injections of P301L tau virus vector impaired spatial memory in rats. ► Memory impairments became evident about 6 weeks post-transduction. ► Memory impairments persisted for 6 months post-transduction. ► Abnormal phosphorylated tau and NFTs were evident in the hippocampus.
