Genetic association study of GABRA2 single nucleotide polymorphisms and electroencephalography in alcohol dependence

► The GABRA2 gene is implicated in the development of alcohol dependence and the presence of excess EEG fast activity. ► Seven GABRA2 SNPs were genotyped in 586 white UK alcohol dependence individuals and 603 ancestrally matched controls. ► None of the selected SNPs showed allelic or haplotypic association with alcohol dependence. ► Excess EEG fast activity was significantly associated with four of the seven GABRA2 SNPs.
