Biodiversity of Saccharomyces cerevisiae populations in Malbec vineyards from the “Zona Alta del Río Mendoza” region in Argentina

► We explore vineyards' S. cerevisiae biodiversity in the main Argentinean wine region. ► Individual vineyards contained different strains irregularly distributed over them. ► High and low polymorphic S. cerevisiae vineyard populations were observed. ► Commercial strains were found widely distributed in some vineyards. ► A highly diverse, but genetically closely related, S. cerevisiae population was found.
