Schistosoma mansoni: Antischistosomal activity of the four optical isomers and the two racemates of mefloquine on schistosomula and adult worms in vitro and in vivo

► In vitro schistosomula and adult Schistosoma mansoni were more affected by the erythro mefloquine derivatives when compared to the threo drugs. ► In vivo, all mefloquine isomers and racemates achieved statistically significant total and female worm burden reductions ranging between 65.4% and 100%. ► Microcalorimetry is a useful tool to study drug effects on schistosomes.
