Nutrient stoichiometry and concentrations influence silver toxicity in the aquatic macrophyte Lemna gibba

► Nutrients influence aquatic toxicity in aquatic plants, but combined effects of silver and nutrients are poorly understood. ► We examined effects of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentrations and N:P ratios on silver toxicity in Lemna gibba. ► Lemna gibba were more sensitive to silver (lower EC50s) when N and P concentrations and P-availability were higher. ► Site-specific nutrient conditions should be considered during prospective and retrospective risk assessments of silver.
