Combined effects of hydrographic structure and iron and copper availability on the phytoplankton growth in Terra Nova Bay Polynya (Ross Sea, Antarctica)

► We determine total and labile Fe and Cu in surface waters from Terra Nova Bay area. ► We examine changes in nutrients and Chl a depending on hydrography and metal values. ► The water column stability was the main driver of the algal development. ► A transition from a Fe-replete to a Fe-limited condition was observed during sampling. ► The switch to a Fe-deplete condition was accompanied by an increased Si:N ratio.
