► All carbon sources of the EcoPlate were transformed in at least one water sample. ► Just nine EcoPlate carbon sources were utilized in all water samples. ► The more polluted groundwater samples had similar microbial community finger-print. ► Herbicides were mineralized in the most polluted sample.
