Importance of bacterivory and preferential selection toward diatoms in larvae of Crepidula fornicata (L.) assessed by a dual stable isotope (13C, 15N) labeling approach

► Feeding in larvae of C. fornicata was studied using dual stable isotope labeling. ► Larvae of C. fornicata incorporated bacteria. ► Larvae of C. fornicata used preferentially diatoms when supplied both sources. ► Considering in situ abundances, bacteria may be a complementary resource for larvae.
