A Generalized Multiple Discrete Interaction Approximation for resonant four-wave interactions in wind wave models

► A Generalized Multiple Discrete Interaction Approximation (GMD) for wind waves is presented. ► The GMD represents the first four-wave interaction even in extremely shallow water. ► A set of GMD configuration with increasing cost and decreasing error is presented. ► The GMD removes significant errors in wave heights in hurricane conditions. ► The GMD improves spectral shapes in all conditions.
