A definitive result on asymptotic contractions

We generalize a fixed point theorem for asymptotic contractions due to Kirk [W.A. Kirk, Fixed points of asymptotic contractions, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 277 (2003) 645–650]. Our result is the final generalization in some sense.
