On the relation between lithospheric strength and ridge push transmission in the Nazca plate

► A comparison is made between the age-dependent ridge push force and the total strength of the Nazca plate. ► Ridge-push cannot result by itself in intraplate deformation, if a plate has dry rheology. ► Wet rheology may result in intraplate deformation if the total force balance is favourable.
