The augen gneisses of the Peloritani Mountains (NE Sicily): Granitoid magma production during rapid evolution of the northern Gondwana margin at the end of the Precambrian

► Protoliths of augen gneisses of the Peloritani Mountains were ~ 545 Ma, late Ediacaran/early Cambrian granitoids. ► Granitoid magmas were generated by interaction between magmas derived from metagreywacke and mantle derived components. ► Fast crustal recycling: the time interval between sediment deposition and sediment partial melting at ~ 545 Ma was ~ 10 Ma.
