This paper is focused on the efficiency of denitration after peroxymonosulfate (PMS) modification on activated bamboo charcoal. The NO removal was evaluated in a fixed bed reactor to investigate the denitration rate and the mechanism of NO photocatalytic removal. The solid surface was characterized using different experimental techniques (N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy). The optimal conditions (20 °C, visible light) were determined with modified sample, and the highest NO removal was achieved at 62.50% when the intensity of visible light was 10 A. During the denitration experiment at low temperature, the NO can be physically absorbed as well as chemisorpted by modified sample. The oxygen and the active sites on solid were found to increase the conversion of NO to absorbed NO2. The light acted as a catalyst which excited the active sites and accelerated the oxidation of NO to NO2, while the solid pore structure can be broken down in long-time illumination with high-intensity. This study has realized the synergistic effect between the adsorbability of bamboo charcoal and the oxidation of PMS, which provides a new application prospect for dry denitration.
