- The rate of TEAÂ + ion transfer across the water/1,2-DCE interface has been measured.
- The rate constant is found to be 0.64 cm sâ 1 using steady state voltammetry.
- A nanocapillary with an inlaid microdisc geometry at the tip is used.
- The measured rate constant is similar to that found using equilibrium techniques.
The rate of TEA+ ion transfer across the water/1,2-dichloroethane interface has been measured using steady-state voltammetry at a capillary with an orifice of nano-sized dimension. It is found that the average rate constant for TEA+ transfer from water to oil and from oil to water is 0.64 cm sâ 1. The results are repeatable using the same capillary. This value is similar to that measured previously using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and fluctuation analysis at the micro-interface.
