This paper presents a novel EEV-based ejector for use in domestic refrigerator-freezers. An EEV-based ejector comprised of an EEV and the main body of an ejector was used to address the requirements of variable cooling loads. The ejector's tiny size made it possible to achieve the miniaturization and application in domestic refrigerator-freezer refrigeration systems. The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique was adopted to investigate the optimum geometric parameters as well as the adaptive capacity with variable cooling loads of the EEV-based ejector model. The established CFD model was validated by the experimental results. In the simulation, the entrainment ratio was considered as the key performance indicator of the EEV-based ejector. The results showed that the blocking percentage of the primary nozzle cross sectional area ranging from 30% to 50% can meet the variable cooling requirement with a relatively high entrainment ratio, which indicates that the EEVCC is well adaptable to varying cooling loads.
