Hybrid-power gas engine heat pump (HPGHP) is a novel air conditioning system which uses the motor as an auxiliary power to keep the gas engine running with high thermal efficiency. Based on the experimental data, the mathematical model of a coaxial-parallel HPGHP is established, the engine economic zone control strategy (EEZ-CS) and the engine optimal torque control strategy (EOT-CS) are proposed to distribute the power between the gas engine and battery pack. In order to compare the economics of the HPGHPs under the two control strategies, the sum of the engine gas consumption and the equivalent gas consumption converted by the change value of battery was calculated as a criterion for evaluation. The results show that the average thermal efficiencies under the EOT-CS are 0.268, 0.27 and 0.27, higher than the 0.265, 0.26 and 0.25 under EEZ-CS in mode C, mode D and mode L, respectively. The total gas consumption is respectively 3.217Â kg, 3.335Â kg and 4.3Â kg under the EOT-CS, EEZ-CS and GEHP. Energy saving effect of HPGHP under EOT-CS is about 4% and 25.2% higher than the EEZ-CS and GEHP under the same load.
