► Energy may enter a nested CGE model production function in different ways. ► We examine the impacts of alternative specifications for a simple demand shock. ► The CGE model results are sensitive to how energy enters the production function. ► Sensitivity arises when relative prices change and/or elasticities vary across the production function.
