Live free or bribe: On the causal dynamics between economic freedom and corruption in U.S. states

► We estimate a panel error correction model using data from U.S. states. ► In the long-run economic freedom has a negative impact on corruption. ► There is bidirectional causality between economic freedom and corruption. ► Bidirectional causality exists both in the short-run and the long-run.
