At low temperature, benzene is decomposed rapidly over Pt/TiO2 by adding a small amount of H2 into an O2-rich oxidation system. At 120 °C, the conversion and mineralization ratio of benzene is 86% and 68% respectively. Effects of H2 amount, reaction temperature and dispersion of Pt particles on the activity and stability of Pt/TiO2 are studied. Over the catalyst with high Pt dispersion, the addition of H2 is supposed to not only produce the energy for the benzene degradation but also promote the generation of hydroxyl radicals to mineralize benzene. Therefore, the activity and stability of Pt/TiO2 can be enhanced.
