Chimie douce hydrogen production from Hg contaminated water, with desirable throughput, and simultaneous Hg-removal

We report a single-step method for hydrogen generation and removal/beneficiation of mercury from mercury contaminated water via galvanic corrosion of in-situ synthesized, hydrolytic nanoaluminium-amalgam. This process bypasses the usual limiting step which involves alumina passivation layer and overcomes hydrogen storage and transportation related challenges with a production rate 720 mmol/min for 0.5 g-Al salt at room temperature.405
