Eggplant polyphenol oxidase multigene family: Cloning, phylogeny, expression analyses and immunolocalization in response to wounding

► Eggplant polyphenol oxidase multigene family (PPO1-6) has two structural subclasses. ► Intronless gene members share significant homology in coding and untranslated regions. ► Eggplant PPO genes are clustered on chromosome 8 and share synteny with tomato and potato. ► Eggplant PPOs are co-expressed in a developmental and tissue-specific manner. ► Immunolocalization shows that PPOs are localized at the site of tissue injury.
