The genotype dependent presence of pyrrolizidine alkaloids as tertiary amine in Jacobaea vulgaris

► The proportion of pyrrolizidine alkaloid N-oxide or free base was plant genotype dependent and PA specific. ► Jacobine and it's derivatives were present in high amount of free base. ► The presence of free base in plant material was not an artifact of the extraction or detection method.
