Phloridzin: Biosynthesis, distribution and physiological relevance in plants

The phenolic compound phloridzin is a prominent member of the chemical class of dihydrochalcones and is mainly present in apple. Its biosynthesis, distribution in the plant kingdom and the possible physiological relevance in planta are discussed.
