Antiplasmodial and other constituents from four Indonesian Garcinia spp.

A xanthone, 1,5-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethoxy-2,7-diprenylxanthone was isolated from Garcinia griffithii (Clusiaceae) and a triterpene, 3β-hydroxy-5-glutinen-28-oic acid from Garcinia cymosa, along with known xanthones, flavonoids and triterpenes. The xanthone displayed a selective antiprotozoal activity against Plasmodium falciparum, and the triterpene a weak and broad but non-selective antiprotozoal activity.
