Antineoplastic unsaturated fatty acids from Fijian macroalgae

From the Fijian green alga Tydemania expeditionis, two unsaturated fatty acids (1−2) were isolated plus one known fatty acid (4). A glycolipid, lithonoside (3) and five known natural products were also identified from the red alga Hydrolithon reinboldii. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 demonstrated moderate inhibitory activity against tumor cell lines with IC50s of 1.3-14.4 μM.
