Synthesis and application of polystyrene supported aluminium triflate as a new polymeric Lewis acid catalyst

Polystyrene supported aluminium triflate was prepared from polystyrene supported aluminium chloride and triflic acid. This reagent was used as a new chemoselective Lewis acid catalyst for dithioacetalization and transdithioacetalization reactions. This polymeric catalyst can be easily recovered and reused without appreciable change in its efficiency.
