Synthetic studies on soft coral norcembranolides: total synthesis of (+)-10-epigyrosanolide E

Total synthesis of (+)-10-epigyrosanolide E was accomplished employing SmI2-mediated 5-exo cyclization of an aldehydo β-alkoxyvinyl sulfoxide and ring-closing metathesis reaction.
