New non-volatile and odorless organosulfur compounds anchored on ionic liquids. Recyclable reagents for Swern oxidation

A new class of odorless and non-volatile organosulfur compounds grafted to imidazolium ionic liquid scaffold has been synthesized. The sulfoxides can be used effectively for the oxidation of primary allylic and benzylic alcohols into aldehydes and secondary alcohols to ketones under Swern oxidation conditions and the corresponding sulfides can be recovered and recycled.
