Novel tocopheryl compounds XX. 1,3,8-Trioxaphenanthrenes derived from γ-tocopherol

Condensation of γ-tocopherol with 2 equiv of aldehydes in a facile one-pot reaction provided 1,3,8-trioxa-phenanthrenes as precursors for the thermal in situ generation of ortho-quinone methide intermediates.
