POCl3-mediated synthesis of hydrolysis-prone 2-trifluoroethylbenzimidazoles

2-Trifluoroethylbenzimidazoles have been synthesized from the corresponding diamines in a two-step process. Use of POCl3 in the cyclodehydration step was found to be crucial for suppression of an unproductive side reaction.
