Synthesis and characterization of novel imidazolium-based ionic discotic liquid crystals with a triphenylene moiety

The synthesis, characterization and mesomorphic properties of two novel columnar mesophase-forming triphenylene-tethered imidazolium ionic liquid crystals are described.
