A selective and convenient ruthenium mediated method for the synthesis of mixed acetals and orthoesters

A new method for the synthesis of symmetrical or mixed acetals and orthoesters via inter- or intramolecular addition of an OH group (alcoholic or phenolic) to O-allylic systems (ethers or acetals), catalyzed by [RuCl2(PPh3)3] is presented.
