Vestibular neurectomy for Meniere's Disease

The treatment of Meniere's Disease is a continually evolving paradigm with prodigal options. When first-line medical management and dietary restrictions fail more aggressive methods including vestibular neurectomy may be indicated. The selective destruction of the vestibular nerve allows for reliable control of vertiginous symptoms with the preservation of residual hearing. To accomplish this various surgical approaches to the vestibular nerve have been designed. Within this article we detail the surgical technique and advantages of the retrosigmoid, retrolabrythine, and the middle fossa approach. When selected appropriately vestibular nerve section is a valuable nondestructive tool to combat the vertiginous symptoms of Meniere's Disease.
