Theory of Rayleigh-Taylor instability is extended for the case of dilute aerosol. In contrast with homogeneous, equations of interpenetrating continua have three types of disturbances: an entropy-vorticity one along with two acoustic ones. Difference in their amplitude constant signs is able to affect disturbance shape and phase convection inside mixing layer. Acoustic branch of a solution is responsible for mechanism of instability, while entropy-vorticity one determines damping mechanism. Instability of accelerating aerosol interface is governed by the modified Shields and Atwood numbers. Systems with different aerosol density are considered: atmospheric dust, mist around atomizing drop and explosively dispersed powder. Particles play destabilizing role at small volume concentrations, while at denser content they have essential damping influence. Fine particles have stronger influence than the coarse ones.
