Modified PVA-alginate encapsulated photocatalyst ferro photo gels for Cr(VI) reduction

► The robust PVA-alginate magnetic beads have superior photocatalytic performance. ► A minimum photocatalyst dosage of 8% (v/v) is capable of removing 100% Cr(VI) within 30 min. ► The beads were recycled without washing for 7 times without losing their initial properties. ► The highly porous structure allows easy diffusion of Cr(VI) into the interiors of beads. ► Such porous structure resulted in increased removal efficiencies.
