Degradation of Malachite green by Potassium persulphate, its enhancement by 1,8-dimethyl-1,3,6,8,10,13-hexaazacyclotetradecane nickel(II) perchlorate complex, and removal of antibacterial activity

► Malachite green was completely degraded by Potassium persulphate. ► Rate of degradation of Malachite green by Potassium persulphate enhanced on addition of micromolar amounts of nickel(II) hexaazamacrocycle (complex1). ► Degradation occurs in a wide range of pH (3-9). ► Antibacterial activity of Malachite green was removed after the degradation of Malachite green by Potassium persulphate in presence of complex1.
